Airlines are waiving change fees for new bookings, allowing more freedom for travelers.
This means you can take advantage, nabbing some unbeatable rates, with no concern over changing your plans later due to coronavirus. You will only have to pay the fare difference.
Travelers are in the pilot seat these days.
You need to book by the end of the month, and airlines will apply the credit towards your future flights.
The situation is fluid and changing every few hours.
These are the airlines waiving change fees for new bookings now, and even more airlines are likely to fall in line:
Air Canada: When you purchase a ticket between March 4 and March 31, 2020, Air Canada will allow you to make a one-time change to your flight without incurring a change fee up to 14 days before travel.
Alaska Airlines: Offering flexible travel options for new ticket purchases between February 27 and March 31, 2020 for travel through February 28, 2021 for guests who later decide not to travel because of concerns related to the coronavirus.
Tickets must be changed or canceled prior to the departure of your original flight.
American Airlines: Extending its offer to waive change fees for customers who purchase travel through March 31. Customers will have even more flexibility since any ticket purchased by March 31 will not incur change fees prior to travel. The offer is available for any of American’s published non-refundable fares.
Delta Air Lines: Issuing a blanket waiver for all tickets, allowing passengers who booked travel between March 1 and March 31 to change their itinerary one time for no fee. Any travel between March 1, 2020 and Feb. 25, 2021 is covered by the waiver, so long as it was booked in the specified date range. Rebooked tickets must be issued by Feb. 28, 2021 and travel must begin by that date.
JetBlue: Waiving change and cancellation fees on new flights booked between Feb. 27 and March 11. Customers who cancel their flights will be issued a credit.
United Airlines: Introducing change fee waiver for all tickets booked between March 3 and March 31, 2020.
This allows customers to change to another flight within 12 months from the original ticket issue date. All tickets, all fare types, all destinations, and all travel dates available for sale.
