Any parent will tell you: virtual schooling is HARD work. 

Whether it’s making sure your child stays on task, correctly turns in their homework, or troubleshoots a Zoom crash appropriately, remote learning lies far beyond textbooks these days.

Luxury hotels are the latest to recognize the heroic efforts of home-schooling parents and have takens steps to entice such families to book a “school-cation” and turn virtual-learning into another hotel amenity. With academic instruction and outdoor activities delegated to hotel personnel, parents are left with the peace and quiet to focus on work (or relaxation).  

For parents curious to try such plush learning environments, here are a few options:

Auberge Resorts Collection

For the kids: Auberge Resorts have partnered with New York private tutoring service Advantage Testing to offer in-person and virtual tutoring programs that are customized to the child’s curriculum and local culture. Chileno Bay Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for example, offers Spanish classes and pinata-crafting classes.

For the parents: In-room office setup is available at all 19 Auberge properties, including whiteboards, conference phones and charging stations.

Eden Roc Cap Cana, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

For the kids: Booking a minimum stay of 15 nights allows families to get their own in-suite classroom which includes a desk, notebooks, printers and computers. Three bilingual “children concierges,” certified in working with kids, assist with homework and organize extracurriculars like Merengue dance lessons—part of the all-inclusive rate of $27,000 (for 15 nights).

For the parents: An extended stay package at any of the property’s 34 stand-alone villas— all equipped with kitchens and private pools—includes a butler, private chef and on-demand workspaces with computers and office supplies.

Conrad Punta de Mita, Punta de Mita, Mexico

For the kids: Conrad Punta de Mita opened on September 1st and was one of the first to set up on-site tutoring. English-speaking tutors are available for one-on-one support for about $24/hour. The resort also offers a series of interactive cultural experiences for kids, such as art classes based on the artistic traditions of the native Huichol tribe.

For the parents: The stunning and spacious library provides ample room for parents and kids to sit side-by-side for virtual schooling, which may be preferable to crowding around your dining room table at home.

Montage International

For the kids: Montage resorts have set up a program called Montage Academy, an all-day monitored study hall plus physical education “electives”, such as fly-fishing, surfing, hiking and more. The program runs from $125-$175 a day or $500-$725 per school week. Kids can also take advantage of virtual tutoring sessions with instructors from the Princeton Review.

For the parents: The brand’s partnership with One Medical offers hotel guests a month-long membership with round-the-clock health service. 

Rosewood Miramar Beach, Montecito, Calif.

For the kids: The classroom moves to the cabana. Cabana classrooms are equipped with an Apple TV, iPad, headphones and assorted school supplies so kids have everything they need to connect to class. The rental fee is from $195 a day, which includes a $50 dining credit to order up lunch or an ice cream cone from the poolside Scoop Shop. Butterfly strokes in the pool in lieu of gym class are optional.

For the parents: The hotel offers swanky in-room office setups complete with printers, wireless keyboards and large monitors, not to mention an energizing breakfast and all-day coffee service.
