London is a city incredibly rich with history and sightseeing. Below we have listed a few of our favorite destinations. Westminster Abbey is a large Gothic church in Westminster, London. The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has an impressive history. With a small exception, every Monarch since William the Conqueror has been crowned at Westminster Abbey. The church is also home to the graves and memorials of many Monarchs and famous scholars throughout history. Buckingham Palace has been the official palace of the British monarch since 1837. Currently it is the home of Queen Elizabeth II. Nineteen State Rooms within the palace are open to visitors on the days Her Royal Highness takes her holidays. Also to note, from May to July, at 11:30 each morning is the famous changing of the guard.
The cuisine of London is wonderfully diverse like the rest of the city. With influences from Eastern Europe, Continental Europe, India and the Americas, there is food in London for everybody. Le Gavroche is a classical French restaurant with a modern twist. As the first restaurant in the UK to earn three Michelin stars, Le Gavroche has an exceptional reputation. The highly esteemed food is matched with an elegant atmosphere and highly professional staff. Le Gavroche will not disappoint. For something more casual and off the beaten path, we recommend The Rooftop Cafe at The Exchange. The menu features seasonal and local dishes with a rotating menu. They also have an impressive wine list featuring local specialties. The Rooftop Cafe has one of the greatest views of the city of London, and is a great restaurant to go to for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner.
The London Underground, also known as the Tube, is the metro system of Greater London that serves 270 stations. If you plan to travel often by public transportation, we recommend investing in an Oyster Card, which will give you access to most forms of public transport in London. The best months of the year that we recommend to visit London are May and September. You will most likely experience very pleasant weather at these times of year without the overwhelming crowds of the summer.
